Our client, a premier national real estate investment firm based in downtown Chicago, is hiring an Associate General Counsel, Finance to join its dynamic team. The Assistant General Counsel should have at least 5 years of complex and sophisticated real estate finance experience. This attorney will enjoy a significant level of responsibility, active deal flow and the opportunity to work closely with the company’s bright and entrepreneurial business team.
Associate General Counsel, Finance Responsibilities:
- Managing all aspects of complex financing transactions including closings and securitizations;
- Handling a variety of complex real estate finance transactions, including CMBS, construction and mezzanine loans as well as loan servicing matters;
- Drafting and negotiating primary deal terms and agreements, including loan agreements, guaranties, cash management agreements and ancillary loan documents;
- Handling day-to-day issues as they arise;
- Working closely with legal and business executives; and
- Managing multiple, time-sensitive priorities.
Associate General Counsel, Finance Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years of complex real estate finance experience gained in a large law firm or in-house setting;
- Experience with REITs is preferred;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong negotiation ability, with an eye toward pragmatic, mutually beneficial outcomes;
- Strong interpersonal and client management skills, capable of interfacing with colleagues at all levels;
- Capacity to multitask and handle a diverse and high-volume workload, while providing calm and professional client service;
- Proven leadership skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team; and
- JD and in good standing in at least one state with the ability to waive into Illinois bar.
